Mold in a front-load door seal is one of the most common repair calls we get — and much of it is preventable with a few habit changes.
Front-load washers seal tightly to prevent leaks, which means the rubber gasket around the door traps moisture between cycles unless it's given a chance to dry out. That trapped moisture, combined with detergent residue, is exactly what mold needs to take hold.
Regular wiping keeps most buildup in check, but if mold keeps returning quickly after cleaning, or if you notice the gasket material itself is cracked or torn, cleaning alone won't solve it — the seal itself may need replacement. See our washer door seal repair page for what that involves.
